When you’ve got plenty of good thing, it’s always polite to share-and
Mark Pollack was willing to lend some of the inspiration behind his textiles for his own company, Pollack, to Tufenkian
carpets. He’s designed
rugs in the past. But this was his debut with the handmade variety. “The considerations are entirely different,” he says. For example, repeats are not a requirement for the production of handmade
rugs. “You’re able to play with different pile heights, fibers, and yarn types that really convey the handcrafted aspect,” he continues.
Existing Pollack fabrics served as the basis for these eight rugs, sold under Tufenkian’s Designers’ Reserve Collection. Colorways are subtly vibrant, patterns distinctly modern. Tranquility is a dance of arcs and angles; Mod emulates sun-dappled water; Zither’s bundled lines transform into an organic abstraction of a jacquard weave; Zigzaggery takes a cue from jazzy mid-century graphics. Standard dimensions range from 3 by 5 feet to 10 by 14 feet, and custom sizes can also be ordered.
Clockwise from top left: The Mod rug is wool. Tranquility blends wool and silk. Zither is also wool. Zigzaggery is wool-silk. The original Zigzaggery fabric blends cotton and nylon. Zither is a viscose-cotton. Tranquility fabric contains the same fibers as the rug. Mod is synthetic. All are by Mark Pollack.
