So few numbers, so much design! Especially when you’re stretching the definition of the word “design.” Of course Met Home’s take on “the art of making” includes architecture and interior décor as well as the usual things homes contain, from sofas and lamps to garden tools and gadgets. But, for this issue especially, our universe also encompasses the honeybee, a camp for kids with special needs, local craft beers, a space-age cultivar, bikes in general, a country (Greenland) and our new favorite color- gold! Once again we’ve tried to lean green (that leaf logo you see by many of the items represents some reasonable claim to environmental sanity attached to the object or project, person or program). We’ve also tried to include only those wonders of our world that debuted in the past year and not to repeat too many of the great designers we have celebrated previously. As usual, you’ll recognize some of the names; some will be new. You’ll applaud and mock our choices, and champion your own, absent favorites. The point of the enterprise: to look at the myriad ways in which design touches our lives and to spark debate about achievements, shortcomings, goals and directions for the future. Enjoy!
