What do we do?
The Tufenkian Custom Program offers our customers the ability to customize a rug by either modifying existing programmed rugs in construction, design, scale, color, or shape, or else by creating their own design in original colors and unique shapes. We offer endless possibilities with custom designs, shapes, and dyed colors. Our color library alone contains over 1,200 colors, 450 of which are represented in our current collection of rugs.
Additionally, we can value engineer rugs by moving into a different construction, like switching out silk for bamboo silk for example, to get more in line with price-sensitive projects. Custom rugs are a large and important part of our business: we produce nearly 1,000 custom rugs per year. We’ve seen everything before and encourage you to take advantage of our expertise.
How much does it cost?
We do not charge a premium for custom for most of our current line. This makes a custom rug approximately the same per square foot price as its equivalent programmed rug. This is especially important when considered against the up charge of up to 25% charged by many of our competitors. Furthermore, Tufenkian is always introducing new fiber choices and techniques to keep costs to a minimum and help meet your project budget. Just ask!
How long does it take?
Custom Rugs always receive priority with our factories. Furthermore, you may opt to air-ship the rug for a minimal surcharge which will shave off 6 weeks over sea shipping. However, it still takes TIME to hand-knot a custom rug…..there are usually four workers on a 9x12 rugs which is made up of 650,000 to 1.5 million knots and takes 3,000 man hours to make! If your project must be expedited, we also offer a tufted program that can address serious timing issues.
How do I get started?
Contact your salesperson through a Tufenkian showroom or Authorized dealer to get started. Not working with a showroom or dealer or prefer to work online? Contact our online sales team to get your project going. Once you’ve chosen your design or created your own, our expert staff will work with you on the optimal materials for your particular installation and present options that may offer a better value for your project.
Designs are presented as black-and-white line drawings, scaled for an 8’x10’ rug, from which we will help you to identify color placements. We provide complimentary renderings for simple resizing and recolors; renderings for stair- runners and custom designs outside simple resizing and recolors are available for a charge. Strike-off samples (1’x1’ or 2’x 2’) take the worry out of ordering your final creation, and are provided in four to six weeks.
