This flat weave Kilim hails from Western Armenia. Kilim rugs feature a tight interweave of the warp and the weft, supporting sharp, clearly defined design elements that emphasize the geometry of the weave. The weft strands carry the design and color, and the weave is only visible at the ends where it emerges as the fringe. This rug features bands of color with three ejder (dragon) motifs across them. The master of air and water, dragons are stylized as clouds in many textiles and are considered protectors. This rug is dominated by reds and blues, with brown accents across the rug.

Cleaning and Care

Vacuum regularly. Loose threads should be trimmed with a scissor (do not pull!). Rug protectors are recommended. If your new rug is exposed to the sun, it is a good idea to rotate regularly to prevent uneven wear. Blot spills with a clean towel (white is best). Cleaning the entire rug should be handled by a professional rug cleaning service.
