The Rare Weaves: Kazak collection draws inspiration from antique patterns. This collection is a nod to the history of Caucasian Armenian carpet weaving. Each rug is hand-made using the nomadic style wool warp and wept foundation of high-quality Armenian wool. The Kazak designs hail from the western region of Armenia. The collection offers rugs in various sizes, each featuring vibrant colors and bold, archetypal designs. Each rug is one-of-a-kind and made outside of Yerevan, Armenia.
A tribal Armenian Kazak weave rug, the Bordjalu rugs feature a simpler design with particular use of latch hooks in large scale motifs. Bordjalu is a bold, archetypal design, with this colorway executed in vibrant colors of madder red, olive green, and ivory. This rug is among the most distinctive Armenian carpet designs, incorporating deeply meaningful symbols into the bright and energetic palettes. This Bordjalu rug is hand knotted of 100% Armenian wool on a wool foundation and adorned in wool fringe. Historically the Bordjalu rugs were woven in a district just south of Tiflis, an area known for producing the heaviest and most coarsely woven Kazaks. The Tufenkian Kazak rugs however all have a pile height around a third of an inch. This piece measures approximately 5' x 7'.

Our rugs are designed and photographed in the 8x10 size. If you are considering any other size, the design and/or scale will vary from this standard. Please reach out to our rug experts if you would like more information on a particular design in a specific size.
Our extremely handmade rugs may be of a slightly different size (up to 3 inches). This is due to the beautiful hand-knotted and hand-tufted nature of our rugs.
Vacuum regularly. Loose threads should be trimmed with a scissor (do not pull!). Rug protectors are recommended. If your new rug is exposed to the sun, it is a good idea to rotate regularly to prevent uneven wear. Blot spills with a clean towel (white is best). Cleaning the entire rug should be handled by a professional rug cleaning service.

Rug pads protect the foundation of your hand knotted rug from wear and dirt, and help to preserve the value of your area rug investment. A rug pad helps your rug to lay flat, and helps to prevent slip and trip hazards from buckles in the rug. Rug pads are nonreturnable.
